Apparently, a movie version of Beowulf is opening this weekend. For some reason, no one has mentioned the book tie-in.

*chuckle*

I wonder what liberties they're gonna take in the movie...you *know* they have to change something, somehow. Maybe they make Grendel's mom Angelina Jolie or something, and she and Beowulf have a torrid romance that goes all wrong?

Holy crap! Angelina Jolie DOES play Grendel's mom. I thought you were kidding!

Manohla Dargis thinks the movie is stoopid, which comes as no surprise: http://movies.nytimes.com/2007/11/16/movies/16beow.html?th&emc=th

Holy crap indeed!!

Funny thing was, I WAS kidding...I just picked the most ludicrous, Hollywood-thing I could think of...I'm just so amused and appalled that I'm actually right!!!

I'm kind of sad that it looks like a waste of space, movie-wise. Beowulf is such a good story on it's own; it didn't need doctoring and dragons and hot Angelina Jolie and whatnot...*shakes head irritably*

Just wait. They'll put out a new paperback edition with a still from the movie on the cover.
