I just had the scare of my life; I thought my computer was flaming out. In fact, it was the computer in the apartment downstairs that was going to its fiery reward. Phew! But for the grace of God, etc.
That's wild. I usually do a full data backup each month to a few CDs (though I'm getting to the point of needing/wanting to do incrementals), which I then read in another machine and open documents to verify. That way I end up with multiple generations of backup - which has been very cool when I've needed to go back to my 1997 discs for a file which I haven't had around for a while.

Date: 2007-10-05 01:37 am (UTC)I did a full backup to my external drive, which took seven hours to write and five hours to verify. Backup is a huge pain.
