thedarkagesI thought that a word existed that described the "packing" of a deliberative body with partisans in order to gain a numerical advantage, as with Roosevelt and the Supreme Court, or John Paul II and the College of Cardinals. This word was "supernumeration."
I was surprised to find that this word is not in the dictionary -- OED, M-W Unabridged, Chambers. I would need to find attestations, and the task seems insuperable. Could I be thinking of a different word with the same sense?
