Today marks the deaths of two great figures in theory: Wolfgang Iser and Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe. I knew Iser from his teaching at the University of California, Irvine; I knew Lacoue-Labarthe through his works only. They were both great readers; their writings were difficult, but they addressed fundamental questions.
RIP.
