I've just learned that I am going to give a public reading of my work as part of the Santa Monica Review's Fall 2006 launch event. There are also two other readers who will be participating: Michelle Latiolais, professor in the UCI MFA program and author of the novel Even Now, and Vicki Forman, professor in the UCLA MFA program and prolific author of short fiction. I'm the dessert to their main courses. I'll be reading a short love story.
I realize that almost no one I know on LJ lives in Southern California, but, just in case, the UCI Bookstore is located in the suburban community of Irvine, at the University of California campus there. From San Diego, take the 5 northbound to the 405. Exit to the left on Culver Drive, make a right onto Campus, turn left onto Peltason East, make a right onto Pereira, and take Pereira to the huge overpriced parking structure, which will be on your right. (My apologies about the huge overpriced parking structure; ordinarily, the shopping center across the street can be parked in for free, but the owners of said shopping center have become anal d***w**s about anyone parking who is not there for shopping center purposes, and have rent-a-cops and tow trucks at the ready.) The Bookstore is across Pereira, fifty yards to the left of the construction site that was once the Student Center. In any case, to get here from Los Angeles, take the 405 down south to Culver Drive, make a right onto Culver, and then follow the instructions as per above. If you're flying in especially for the reading, exit John Wayne International Airport onto Michelson, take Michelson to Culver, turn right on Culver, etc.
Finally, I must add that as an added attraction, there will be platters of fruit, cheese, and cookies, along with potable liquids. Arrive early in hopes of same.
Once again, the reading is at 5:30 PM, Wednesday October 18, 2006, at the UCI Bookstore.
