Alan Rich, one of the finest classical music commentators in the country, has suffered a stroke, only a couple of weeks after his 85th birthday. He has personally known many of the pivotal figures in 20th century classical music, he has written program notes for many symphony orchestras, including the LA Philharmonic, and he was a music critic of long standing for the LA Weekly. A few months ago, his job at the Weekly was eliminated; undeterred, he started a blog, So I've Heard, at http://www.soiveheard.com/. Many of his past columns are archived there, and they're worth reading.

This is a terrible time; everyone is asking for money for everything. But there's a PayPal donation link on his website. He could probably use the help. If you can't do that, there's a comment form on his website; let him know that people are thinking about him.
