Still taking the cake for the funniest error message I've ever seen is the following, observed on a Red Hat 5.2 system in 1998:
Kernel panic (254) - Something is very wrong. You should not be seeing this message.

It happens when the same request happens twice in a row.The second one gets the message if the first doesn't finish fast enough.
