thedarkagesSam Fields, one of the great Los Angeles jazz radio announcers, passed away yesterday at the age of 55. His sets satisified my diverging interests, with straight-ahead, bebop, and Pacific mixed together with a little post-Miles. I wanted him to be the dj at my wedding.
He was preceded in death by Chuck Niles, the greatest Los Angeles jazz announcer of all time, in March of 2004.
