I can't believe that no one cares that Beverly Sills is dead. She was one of the great coloratura sopranos in history. She was a brilliant arts administrator, and used her wiles to further many important musical causes. Compared to Joan Sutherland and her lantern jaw, she was a beauty. Her wit and intelligence came out in many contexts, but especially during the interviews she conducted for PBS's classical music programming.

And she was one of "ours," like Jan Peerce and Richard Tucker.

RIP, Bubbles. Your mad scenes were worth the price of admission.

Her death was all over the news yesterday, so I don't think it's fair to say that no one cares.

I'm not too surprised that her death didn't make a bigger splash in the blogosphere, since it tends to be mostly obsessed with pop culture, but I am a bit shocked that your classical music station gave her such short shrift.
