Unfair To Bunnies

My wife knows this medical researcher who studies mechanically assisted breathing -- what they put you on when you're on life support. She cuts the breathing muscles in bunnies, so that they can be sustained using various kinds of ventilators. Of course, they then can't live without the ventilators, so when the machines are turned off, the bunnies die. She kills them before she takes them off the ventilators so that they don't strangulate.

I wonder if the fatal and crippling diseases which people suffer are actually part of clinical trials by some kind of higher being that finds us as dispensable as we find bunnies.
