A powerful rabbi in Israel has
suggested that our recent hurricane occurred:
- as punishment for U.S. support for Israel's disengagement from Gaza
- as punishment for African-Americans
- studying Torah
- not studying enough Torah
Where does Rabbi Yosef come up with this stupidity? It's a good thing that, due to differences in demographic and denomination, what he says is irrelevant to me and others in my congregation.
(I will say that if it were irrefutably proven to me that I could avert a local earthquake through Torah study -- say, by strong tremors occurring every time I stopped -- I'd start hitting the books like nobody's business.)
